We are a small firm of building contractors based in the West Midlands. Due to the current financial situation, with most people unable to sell their houses or buy larger properties, a large proportion of our work currently involves extension building. We are on good terms with a local skip hire company and employ them with every build contract. They areefficient and reliable, and as we employ their services on a daily basis, they offer us a good discount on the contracts and preferential treatment when they prioritise their jobs.

The building of extensions always relies heavily on the local skip hire company in the initial phases, as there is always a lot of waste material to be removed at the start of a build. A ground floor extension may involve the removal of an existing patio, or garden shrubs, trees and pathways, possibly also the disposal of lean-to temporary buildings or old garden sheds. This involves several visits per day from the local skip hire company during the first few weeks of the build, delivering and collecting efficiently as and when required. As the build progresses, there is gradually less and less involvement from the skip hire firm, as fewer waste materials are produced as the construction takes place.

Other contracts that we specialise in are flat and house refurbishment projects. Thesejobs also rely on heavy involvement from the local skip hire company, as there is a lot of waste material from these works, with the likes of old rotten windows, doors, architraves and floorboards to be disposed of, as well as plenty of old plaster, bricks and mortar when rooms are knocked through to make larger spaces and walls are removed. As many waste materials as possible from these works are recycled, as there is high demand for original bricks in good condition, and many other items removed from old properties can command good prices in the second hand building products market such as Belfast sinks and old cast iron fireplaces.

Similarly, if you are undertaking a property restoration project, you can find many original items to use in your build to give the property its authentic look and feel, such as copper boilers, Bakelite light switches and electrical fittings, even enamelled cast iron baths with claw feet can be found in these builders' reclamation centres - we find them very useful sources of original building materials when we are completing such restoration projects for our own clients.
