Jan had a problem in the skip bin hire department. Her personal assistant had earlier informed her that there was trouble brewing there, ever since they recruited a new supervisor. He had been brought in by one of the senior management, some relation or something like that. Jan called her human resource director, and asked about the situation.
Jesamine, the HR director had her doubts about Lou Slacker, the new supervisor of the skip bin hire department. She had initially wanted to promote another employee Andrew Whyte to the position; Andrew had been strongly recommended by the previous manager who had retired. Furthermore, Andrew had an outstanding performance record; he possessed commendable leadership skills and had been singled out as one of the potential leaders in the company.
However one of the vice presidents had requested that Jesamine interviewed Lou and gave him a try. Lou had passable certifications, and he had made a good impression during the interview. So he was recruited; the appointment came with a 6- months probationary period during which either party, employer and employee, could give notice within 24 hours without any compensation or reasons.
Jan, being the CEO of the waste management organisation, could not have any dissension in the company, especially in the skip bin hire department. Jan's father had started his empire from the beginnings of a humble skip bin hire business. She could not very well get rid of Lou Slacker, she told Jesamine. Or could she transfer him out to any other department ?
Jesamine mentioned two other departments that had requested for personnel. One was the house refurbishment section which dealt with rubbish collection and waste disposal from any house refurbishment projects. The other department was the typing pool, Jesamine giggled. Their manager had gotten married and left to join her husband overseas.
Jan decided to transfer Lou out to the house refurbishment section, where he would be out in the field most of the day, thus there would be less opportunities of causing trouble in the office. Now if she could discreetly move the trouble-maker out of her beloved skip bin hire department without any hassle. Jesamine reminded Jan of the company 's policy of training-on-the-job practices for new recruits and interns who were sent to different departments to understand the company and its operations. So it was decided that Jesamine advise Lou of his 'good fortune' to be sent to the house refurbishment department for his next phase of job-training.
