My husband is a carpenter and works for an old school friend of his. He has been thinking about starting his own carpenter business from home, however we would need to build an extension in order for him to do this. I know a few people who have had house extensions so I quizzed them about a few things, like price and how long it would take etc. Mynan has had 2 extensions on her house. The first of the extensions she had built was aroom just off the kitchen, which she had the kitchen moved into, and now uses the old kitchen as a breakfast room. The second one is a downstairs toilet. You have to go outsideto enter it. It's freezing in there, and full of paint and tools,she should have just built a shed! After speaking to everyonewenow have decided to go ahead and get he extension built.He is a brilliant carpenter and we both think that in a year the extension would have paid for its self, no problem.

One of the blokes that drives the waste lorry for the bin men, in our area used to work with my husband doing carpentry. He has thought about taking him on if all goes well with the home business, as he has had enough of driving a waste lorry. I wouldn't like that job! I bet it absolutely stinks, especially on a really hot day.I feel sorry for waste lorry drivers!I did have a little dispute with him a few weeks ago though. Someone in our are had hired a skip from a local skip hire company. The skip got filled up with all their rubbish, and everyoneelses in the street. During that night, cats must have gotten into the skip and ripped all the bin bags that were in there open, and that morning there was rubbish all over the road. We did put some bin bags in there as well. I had emptied our junk mail box into one of the bin bags, and when he came to collect the wheelie bins, they found some of our mail scattered on the floor. He came and knocked on the door and I explained what we put in there and that we had not hired the tip and he got all mad saying that it was him and the other workers who would have to pick up all the rubbish as the skip men just collect the skip and what is actually in it. I can see why he was angry, I certainly would have been too.
