"Where's my scooter? Have you seen it?" I ask dad.
"I think your sister took it. She said she would be back before one," dad replies, as he puts away his newspaper.
"I thought my scooter was misplaced. Now that I know Lara has taken it, that is a relief," I say, smiling at dad.
"Denise, there was a call just now from a driving school. An instructor by the name of Mr. Gorry called. Is he the instructor for your driving lesson?"
I nod my head. "When did he call?"
"Around ten. You were taking a bath. So, I took the message," says dad. "So, when are you expected to take the test?"
"I am not sure about that. Mr. Gorry mentioned that I should try to improve on certain areas. I think he wants to be sure before I sign up for the test."
"Oh? Is that so? Are you having any problem with your driving skill?"
"No, dad. It's just that he wants to be perfectly sure that I am ready. He has been complimenting me on my ability so far." I smile, trying to convince dad. "Mr. Gorry is a good instructor. He is careful. He just wants me to make sure that I don't screw up."
Dad nods. I think he likes Mr. Gorry. "So, what kind of car do you think you'd like? I will buy you one if you pass the test."
"If? Dad!"
"Okay, sorry. I will buy you one when you pass the test."
"Promise?" I am grinning wide. The subject of buying me a car was never brought up in the past. "You sure you want to buy me a car?"
"Why not, dear? I don't feel safe with you going around on that scooter. I prefer you to be going around in a car. I feel a car is safer. You know what I mean, right?"
I nod my head. "Thanks, dad. You definitely know how to make my day!"
"Well, when you get your own car, you can give your scooter to Lara. You know your sister needs it. She is fond of your scooter. Are you aware of that?"
I nod my head again. Somehow, it is no longer easy to get the grin off my face.
