It's Amy's 18th birthday and her dad just gave her a new car. A pink mini cooper! It is just the car she's been dying to have. Most of her friends have it. Amy cannot believe what she was seeing when her dad woke her up this morning. She was really surprised to see a big pink wrapped package in the middle of the driveway(!). She was shouting with joy even before she opened the gift. She knew what the gift was. She kept begging her dad to give her a car since summer started but her dad wanted her to finish her driving lesson first.

Amy's dad taught her how to drive when she was 16 but as a teenage girl, she just did not have the patience to finish the course. So in order to pass the course, Amy's father had to seek professional help for her. Because of Amy's desire have a car, she diligently listened to the driving instructor and took all the lessons to heart. She did not only aim to pass but to excel in all the driving lessons in order to complete the course in time for her 18th birthday.

Amy's dad thinks that she not only tried her best to pass the course and finish the lessons but she actually excelled. He knew Amy is going to be a responsible driver so he bought the mini cooper for her. Besides, Amy is going off to college now and perhaps a car would encourage Amy to visit them more often since the university is just an hour's drive away.

Seeing Amy's joy with her new car bought tears to his dad's eyes. He loved seeing Amy so happy and hopes that she stays that way. Amy will always be her baby girl. He knows he cannot shield her from all the things to come and he also knows there will be a lot of disappointments that Amy will encounter but he just wishes that the car will serve as her comfort zone, a place to hide when she feels like crying, a companion and a link that would bring her back home when she finally cannot bear it on her own and needs her daddy once more. But that wont happen. She's already planning an insurance scam, to buy heroin.
